    Theme: Canadian History  

     

    • Canadian symbols and their origins and why we use them? Ex: maple leaf, beaver, moose, hockey, inukshuk, totem poles, etc 

    Why Canada’s national sport is hockey 

    • The hockey stick can sometimes be associated with Canadian pride  

    • Canada is considered to be the birthplace of ice hockey 

    • According to Canadian folklore, hockey unites us.  

    Why the Maple Leaf is the symbol of Canada 

    • Indigenous people valued the maple tree for its sweet sap and the goods derived from it  

    • The maple leaf also represents strength, protection, and endurance  

    Canadian History of Winnie the Pooh  

    • Winnie the Pooh was based on a real black bear named Winnie 

    • Canadian soldier, Harry Colebourn donated the bear to the London zoo 

    • A.A. Milne’s (author of Winnie the pooh) son loved the bear so much that he started to make stories inspired by Winnie  

    • Now Winnie the Pooh is known all over the world and has many books, movies, tv shows, etc about the bear and his friends  

     

    The first world war and the role of Canada 

    • Canada was considered a neutral country, but since Canada under a legal status as a British Dominion, we were dragged into the war 

    • Canada provided Britain with soldiers, air force, resources, etc.  

Scenes

  • 1. The tree starts off as a small tree. Like baby smol. 

  • Add a squirrel as the tree’s friend

  • 2. It sees the first wave of traders come in

  • 3. Witness trees around him get chopped and made into the wall and/or shipped off [make him frown here]. Squirrel comforts tree

  • 4. [Time lapse of the tree getting taller => pan to the village being built (time lapse this as well)]

 

  • Since the tree is tall, make a scene of all of the life in the fort. Squirrel tell tree about what happens

    • 5. Traders at the trading window

    • 6. Kids running around

    • 7. Blacksmith

    • 8. Farm (chickens, sheep)

    • 9. Fire burning: squirrel running around campfire with traders

    • 10. Canoes

    • 11. Barrels rolled to door to ship

  • 12. 1858 gold rush 

    • PEOPLE FULL HOUSE

  • 13. Proclaim colony of British Columbia

  • 14. 1871 British Columbia province

  • Less and less people, make tree sad

 

  • 15. [make like a “X years later’] Fort Langley as a historical site (sign)

  • Tree happy to see people again

1. Intro to tree. Tree is lonely but then a squirrel becomes his friend 

4. Over the years the tree gets bigger and taller. The village also grows bigger and more buildings get built

9. Traders sitting by a bonfire  talking. Squirrel running around traders
